APPROPRIATELY enough, it was the hunger for success of Péter Halmosi and Krisztián Timár that persuaded Argyle manager Ian Holloway to add the two Magyars to the Pilgrims' squad.
Current Hungarian international midfielder Halmosi has joined the Pilgrims on loan from Debreceni VSC and could be in line to become the club's most expensive signing.
The two clubs have agreed a £400,000 fee to make the move permanent when Halmosi's six-month loan concludes in the summer.
Halmosi is joined at Home Park by his compatriot Timár, a 6ft 2in defender, and both will come into immediate consideration for a place in the first-team squad at Norwich on Saturday, although neither will be available for Tuesday's FA Cup replay against Peterborough.
Ferencvaros centre-back Timár has also been signed on a a six-month loan deal, again with an option for the deal to become permanent in the summer for a fee of around £100,000.
Both players have agreed two-year deals, should their loans prove successful.
Halmosi, 27, has been capped 12 times by Hungary and Holloway said: ''He's a very experienced player, he scores goals, gets crosses in, can play left-wing or left-back.
"He wants to go to the Premiership, so we have got something in common, me and him."
Timár, also 27, spent last week on trial at Home Park and impressed the Argyle manager.
"I liked what I saw," said Holloway. "He was here only two days, but it's about what I'm looking for and I feel he is an uncompromising defender who will add to our squad.
"He can play centre-half and right-back. He's a big strong boy and I think he's a perfect Plymouth-type player. He's very strong, and determined to do well, which he has managed to show me in a couple of days.
"When you take people from abroad, you do as much homework as you can and get them over and try to find out what their temperament is like."
One of Halmosi's caps was a World Cup qualifier 14 months ago, when he lined up against Bulgaria in the same starting 11 as his new team-mate Ákos Buzsáky.
"We played together in the Under-21s," said Buzsáky, "and in recent years we have played two or three times in the national team."
Halmosi almost joined Everton at the beginning of last season but the two clubs were unable to agree a deal, and subsequently had a trial at Celtic.
Premiership sides Blackburn, Bolton and West Ham were also among clubs tracking his progress but he remained at Debreceni, who he played for against Manchester United in the European Cup.
Buzsáky said: "Because he has been linked with these clubs, he thinks it will be easier to step up later from England's second division, than from Hungary's first division."
Halmosi, who will wear the number 16 shirt, started his career in Hungary with his home-town Haladas Szombathely, and has had a spell in Austria with Grazer AK.
"Hungarian football is different from English football," said Buzsáky, "but he is a typical left-sided midfielder. He runs a lot, which is always good in England.
"He has to adapt a little bit but he thinks that is not going to be a problem."
Timár, who has been handed the vacant number five shirt, said: "I am very happy. I will try to play as soon as possible, as soon as I pick up the style of play.
"I like everything about English football. It is good for me - a lot of tackling and heading. I enjoy it. I hope it's good for me."
He has been capped by Hungary at Under-23 level, and represented Ferencvaros in the UEFA Cup.
He has also played for Hungarian clubs MTK Budapest, where Buzsáky's started his career, BKV Elore, Videoton and Tatabanya in Hungary, as well as Finnish side Jokerit.
Both players are happy to see, not only Buzsáky, but fellow Magyar Mark Petnehazi, a youth-team player.
"It is easier for me and Péter that Ákos is here," said Timar. "He can help us with life and with football."
