Herald Sport revealed earlier this week that the Pilgrims' 2007/08 player-of-the-year had been told he could leave Home Park. That was after the centre-back made only 13 starts for Argyle in the Championship this season. Timar's agent, Vladan Filipovic, also told the Hungarian sports newspaper Nemzeti Sport that he had been given permission by Argyle to try to find a new club for his client. Many Argyle fans were furious that manager Paul Sturrock seemed ready to dispense with the services of the 6ft 2in centre-back. The Herald's website, thisisplymouth.co.uk, was inundated with readers' comments on the topic. But Sturrock has now indicated that Timar could still have a future at Home Park, in an interview with the club's media department. Sturrock said: "The challenge for Kris now is to put all his energies into focusing on the opening day of next season and winning his place back." Timar's first team opportunities this season were restricted by the fine form of on-loan Manchester United defender Craig Cathcart.

However, the prospect of Cathcart returning to Argyle for another loan spell next term seems slim.So there is likely to be a chance for another centre-back – Timar or someone else – to become the regular partner to Marcel Seip. Sturrock added: "There was probably no-one in the dressing room who wanted last season to end more than Kris, and probably no-one looking forward to next season more than him. "The past is the past. When the players come back for next season, all the shirts are up for grabs." Sturrock was unavailable for comment when Herald Sport tried to contact him to ask him about whether Timar could leave Argyle or not. But Filipovic certainly seems to believe Argyle would be ready to let Timar move on. In his interview with Nemzeti Sport, he said: "Krisztian wants to stay in England but no specific discussions with any other club have taken place." Meanwhile, there continues to be a delay in the proposed takeover of Argyle by Yasuaki Kagami, one of the club's five directors. The Japanese businessman wants to acquire a 51 per cent controlling interest in the Pilgrims' parent company. Plymouth Argyle (Holdings) Limited owns 76 per cent of the total shares in the football club. But negotiations for Kagami's Shonan Management Corporation to buy all the shares of Argyle director Phill Gill in the parent company are taking much longer than expected to reach an agreement. Should Kagami successfully do that, he would purchase an equal number of shares off the Pilgrims' three other directors to reach 51 per cent. Kagami already holds a 20 per cent stake in the parent company, from when he became a club director in April 2008. He and George Synan, the senior vice-president of Shonan Management Corporation, are expected to visit Plymouth either at the end of this month or the start of June. However, it remains to be seen whether they will make the trip should the takeover still be on hold.
